Singapore National Team is ranked 23rd in the ICC global rankings and is upbeat to start their ICC T20 Asia Finals World Cup Qualifier campaign next week. The Return of an ICC Major Event in Singapore after 5 years!
The last ICC Senior Men’s event was the ICC World Cricket League Division 4, which was the qualification pathway for the 50 over World Cup. This took place between 21st-28th June 2014 of which the matches were played at the Kallang Cricket Ground, Singapore Cricket Club and Singapore Indian Association.
This was a memorable occasion as Singapore finished on level points with Malaysia, but with a superior net run rate and topped the table. After losing their first match to Denmark, the island nation came back strongly to win all their remaining games versus Italy, Oman, Malaysia and a last day flourish against Jersey. This saw Singapore being promoted to the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 for the first time in its history!
SCA Game Development Officer, Arjun Menon is keen to deliver another quality event: “I am very pleased to see Singapore hosting a major ICC event once again after the challenges we had faced in regards to losing a major playing facility (home of Singapore cricket) in 2016.
Also, this would be a good opportunity for the youth involved in cricket who have aspirations to play for Singapore to witness the standard of cricket played at the highest level”.
