T20I highest Chase record set -South Africa chased 259 vs West Indie

South Africa set new record in T20I by chasing 259 in T20I vs West Indies.

On Sunday, South Africa achieved a historic run-chase in T20Is, resulting in a series tie against West Indies at Centurion.

After conceding 258 with the ball, South Africa produced a stirring run-chase, led by a maiden T20I ton from Quinton de Kock, to record the highest-ever run-chase in T20Is.

Racking up 102 in the first six overs in the run-chase, the highest score by any team in the Powerplay in T20Is, de Kock and Reeza Hendricks kickstarted South Africa’s innings in style.

South Africa emerged as the favorites to win the game after a stunning opening partnership of 152 in just 10.5 overs. Although West Indies managed to make a comeback by dismissing Rossouw, Hendricks, and Miller in quick succession, South African skipper Aiden Markram continued the onslaught and guided his team to a memorable victory.

Previously, the record for the highest successful run-chase in T20Is was held by Bulgaria, who chased down 243 against Serbia in 2022 in 19.4 overs. With this victory, South Africa now holds the record for the highest successful run-chase in both ODIs and T20Is.

In the earlier innings, West Indies set their highest score in T20Is, thanks to a record-breaking 39-ball century by Johnson Charles. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
