Madison Landsman, South African Spinner  picks up first-ever hat-trick in U19 Women’s T20 World Cup history

Madison Landsman of South Africa’s U19 Women’s team made history by recording a hat-trick on the third day of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. During the second innings of their match against Scotland, with the run rate increasing and the chase still alive, Landsman bowled the 15th over. With three wickets in three balls, she helped secure a win for her team, their first of the tournament, and left Scotland reeling on 60/8. Landsman’s first wicket came from a flighted delivery that deceived the batter, Maryam Faisal, into a top edge that was caught by the keeper. Niamh Muir was her second wicket, spooning a catch to the covers where the captain, Oluhle Siyo, caught it on the second attempt. Her third and final wicket came from another flighted delivery, where the batter Orla Montgomery completely missed the ball which hit her off-stump.

Landsman’s hat-trick was not only a match-defining moment, but also a historic one, as she became the first player to record a hat-trick in the history of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Her impressive performance helped secure a much-needed win for South Africa and will certainly boost her team’s confidence as they continue to compete in the tournament. Additionally, her hat-trick is a testament to her skill as a leg-spinning all-rounder, and she will likely be a player to watch as the tournament progresses.
