Ben Duckett Smashes Record-Breaking Knock in Champions Trophy Clash Against Australia
England’s opening batter, Ben Duckett, etched his name into the history books by setting a new record for the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history. The 30-year-old left-hander played a sensational knock of 165 runs off just 143 balls against Australia, helping England post a formidable total of 351 for 8.
Duckett’s innings was a masterclass in aggressive strokeplay, featuring 17 boundaries and 3 towering sixes. This monumental innings also marked his career-best score in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and his third ODI century overall.
Before Duckett’s stunning performance, the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history was 145 runs, a record jointly held by Nathan Astle of New Zealand (set in 2004) and Andy Flower of Zimbabwe (set in 2002).
In addition to Duckett’s heroics, England’s total of 351 also became the highest team score in Champions Trophy history, surpassing New Zealand’s previous record of 347 for 4 against the USA in 2004 at The Oval.
A crucial highlight of the innings was Duckett’s 158-run partnership with Joe Root for the third wicket, which laid a solid foundation for England’s imposing total. With this record-breaking performance, Duckett not only powered his side to a commanding position but also set new benchmarks for future editions of the tournament.
