The first Women’s Emerging Asia Cup is set to get underway in Colombo and all participants hailed the initiative by the Asian Cricket Council for providing an opportunity to showcase their skills. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play each other in the four nation competition before the two teams that top the group playing the final at R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Women’s cricket has received lot of prominence in the last decade and the objective of this event is to unearth talented young cricketers in the region.
“This is a big opportunity for young players. We are extremely thankful for the ACC for the opportunity. We have been training for six weeks and played some warm-up games too. We hope an international tournament of this nature will bring the best out of the players,” host captain Harshitha Madavi told reporters at the tournament launch in Colombo on Monday.
