Virat Kohli Levels Mohammad Azharuddin’s India Catch Record
Virat Kohli has added another feather to his cap, equaling Mohammad Azharuddin’s record for the most ODI catches taken by an Indian fielder. Kohli needed just two catches to reach the milestone of 156, a figure Azharuddin achieved in 334 ODIs. Kohli, however, reached this mark in significantly fewer games, his 298th ODI.
This achievement places Kohli joint third on the all-time list of most catches taken by a fielder in ODIs. At the top of the list is Mahela Jayawardene, who took 218 catches in 448 ODIs (443 innings). Ricky Ponting sits in second place with 160 catches from 375 matches (373 innings). Kohli is now just four catches away from surpassing Ponting’s total.
